ArcGIS Developer Bundle
What is the ArcGIS Developer Bundle?
The ArcGIS Developer Bundle is Esri's streamlined solution for development and testing in ArcGIS Enterprise. It provides developers with a cost-effective, standalone ArcGIS Enterprise environment for building and testing applications independently of production systems. It is ideal for organizations building and extending solutions on ArcGIS Enterprise. It also supports extension scenarios for ArcGIS Pro.
Why should I purchase the Developer Bundle?
Designed to simplify Esri's offerings and align with the user type licensing changes implemented in 2024, the Developer Bundle consolidates licensing for customers who need a dedicated environment for building and validating solutions. The Developer Bundle includes a comprehensive suite of tools, resources, and support for developing mapping and analytics solutions, enabling the creation of web apps, native apps, app extensions, and turnkey solutions built on the ArcGIS System.
The Developer Bundle is available for purchase through the Esri Store, product pricing page, or Esri sales channels and is the recommended choice for developers requiring ArcGIS Enterprise for development and testing.
Can I deploy applications to production using the Developer Bundle?
No, the Developer Bundle only provides a development and testing environment in which developers can create, customize, and validate applications, extensions, and workflows. It cannot be used to deploy applications to production.
What is included in the Developer Bundle?
The Developer Bundle offers a complete suite of software for businesses looking to extend ArcGIS with custom functionality or build innovative applications. It offers a comprehensive geospatial framework for both web and desktop environments. It includes role-based user types that enable access to various ArcGIS capabilities and applications. What happened to the ArcGIS Developer Subscription (ADS)?
Effective June 26, 2024, the ArcGIS Developer Subscription (ADS) plans—Essentials, Builder, Professional, Premium, and Enterprise—were officially deprecated. Existing ADS customers with the Essentials plan were automatically migrated to ArcGIS Location Platform subscriptions. Builder plan customers were to transition to ArcGIS Online user types or the Developer Bundle, depending on their needs. Those with Professional, Premium, or Enterprise plans had the option to migrate to the new Developer Bundle, and the renewal price for the first year is equivalent to the ArcGIS Developer Subscription Enterprise Plan subscription price.
Those with Enterprise Agreements (EAs) must contact their account managers to discuss available migration options. For more information, please refer to the knowledge base article ArcGIS Developer Subscription deprecation.
What is the difference between the ArcGIS Developer Bundle and the ArcGIS Developer Subscription?
ArcGIS Developer Bundle is the successor to the now deprecated ArcGIS Developer Subscription.
If you previously used a Professional, Premium, or Enterprise plan under an ArcGIS Developer Subscription, migrating to the Developer Bundle ensures continued access to the ArcGIS Enterprise development and testing environment, offering comparable software to what was included in the ArcGIS Developer Subscription Enterprise plan.
Note that the Developer Bundle does not include the free tier of ArcGIS Location Platform services, ArcGIS Online user type licenses and app licenses, and ArcGIS Online development and testing organization.
With the Developer Bundle, you will not receive or register an ArcGIS Developer Subscription code, which was required in the previous program. All licensing and activation are managed through your My Esri account under the Licensing tab.
What is not included in the Developer Bundle?
The Developer Bundle does not include the following:
- The free tier of ArcGIS Location Platform services
- The ArcGIS Online development and test organization
- ArcGIS Online user type licenses and app licenses
How can I activate ArcGIS Pro within the Developer Bundle?
ArcGIS Pro is included in the Developer Bundle and is licensed via Portal for ArcGIS using Named User licensing. To use ArcGIS Pro, you will deploy Portal for ArcGIS and ensure that your Portal username is assigned as a user type that grants access to ArcGIS Pro. For ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4, these are: Creator, Professional or Professional Plus. You can check and modify your user type by logging into Portal for ArcGIS and navigating to the Organization > Members page.
How many machines can be authorized with a single Developer Bundle purchase?
The Developer Bundle is a single-user license designed for a primary developer. While the software can be installed on multiple machines, it is intended for one individual to use it at a time.
For development and testing purposes, the bundle includes seven additional user types that allow you to simulate how different roles interact with your applications. These users are intended only for testing workflows and may not be used for production work or as a replacement for a full GIS team.
- One user can be assigned as the ArcGIS Enterprise administrator, responsible for installing, configuring, and managing the deployment, as well as publishing services.
- Each Developer Bundle supports one administrator (primary developer). Additional administrators require additional Developer Bundle subscriptions.
- Advanced development tasks such as creating custom data feeds, Server Object Interceptors (SOIs), and Server Object Extensions (SOEs) are performed by the primary licensed developer.
- The additional named users included in the Developer Bundle are for testing purposes only and should not be used for day-to-day operational workflows.
- If multiple Developer Bundles are purchased, the included ArcGIS Enterprise user types can be combined into a single license file in My Esri for development and testing use. These user types can be used to test client applications and role-based access scenarios when building apps that connect to ArcGIS Enterprise.
What is the difference between a developer license assigned to the Developer Bundle and a staging license?
A developer license assigned through the Developer Bundle is intended for building and testing value-added applications. It provides a development environment in which developers can create, customize, and validate applications, extensions, and workflows.
The Developer Bundle is available as an annual subscription for $5,000 and includes a 4-core ArcGIS Enterprise license for development and testing. For customers with development-focused needs, it can be a more cost-effective option than a staging license. Customers requiring additional cores for volume or performance testing should instead purchase an ArcGIS Enterprise staging license.
A staging license can be used to mirror a product environment. In addition to supporting application development and testing, it can be used for user acceptance testing (UAT), performance and load testing, staging commercial data updates, creating and testing map caches, and conducting training activities. The developer license provided by the Developer Bundle should not be used to mirror or clone a production environment or to test new versions of software released by Esri.
To summarize, use a developer license when building and testing applications. Use a staging license when you need a pre-production environment to validate, test, train, and prepare systems and data before deployment to production. The staging license supports a broader set of non-production activities than a developer license.
