Sharing and security

ArcGIS Online provides a range of features to enhance the security of your web app. Two essential features for securing your web application are sharing and implementing groups within your organization. By utilizing ArcGIS Online groups, you can control access to ArcGIS app builders based on your users' membership in specific groups. This allows for a more secure environment for your app.

How to share web apps with groups

Below are the high-level steps for sharing your low-code/no-code apps in ArcGIS Online.

  1. Create a group

Create a new group in ArcGIS Online or use an existing group. This group will be used to control access to the ArcGIS app builders.

  2. Share the web app with the group

Share a web app created using one of the ArcGIS app builders with the group by specifying the group's name or ID in the app's settings. This will restrict access to the app to only those users who are members of the group.

  3. Add users to the group

Add the users who should have access to your app to the group. You can add users individually. To learn more, go to Manage groups.

  4. Manage group membership

Manage the membership of the group to ensure that only authorized users have access to your app. You can remove users who no longer need access or add new users as needed. To learn more, go to Own groups.

Another approach to consider when securing a web app in ArcGIS Online is authentication. ArcGIS Online supports various authentication methods, such as:

  • Built-in user authentication
  • Enterprise logins (LDAP, SAML)
  • Social logins (Amazon, Google, Facebook).
