canvas layer

A canvas layer is a basemap layer that provides a neutral background with minimal colors, labels, and features. Only key information is represented in a canvas layer to provide geographic context. The purpose of a canvas layer is to allow any thematic data layers a developer might place on top of the canvas layer to be given greater emphasis.
