hosted layer

A hosted layer is a reference to data in a data service stored in ArcGIS. The properties and capabilities are managed with an item. The most common types of hosted layers are hosted feature layers, hosted vector tile layers, and hosted image tile layers. Hosted layers are created using data management tools to import, create, or convert data. The type of data service associated with a hosted layer depends upon the type of the hosted layer. Client applications access data associated with a hosted layer through its item ID or data service URL.
