portal

A portal is a geospatial content management system used to securely store, manage, and access different types of content in ArcGIS. There are two types of portals: 1) the instance of the portal service hosted by Esri that can be accessed with a ArcGIS Developer account or ArcGIS Online account, and 2) an instance of the portal service hosted with ArcGIS Enterprise that can be accessed with a ArcGIS Enterprise account.

The most common tools used to access a portal are ArcGIS.com, the developer dashboard, ArcGIS Enterprise portal, and ArcGIS Pro.

Portals can also be accessed with scripting languages such as ArcGIS API for Python and ArcGIS REST JS.

A portal also includes functionality to support security, user authentication, and user administration.
