A web map is a map stored as a JSON object that defines map properties. Its JSON structure is defined by the web map specification, and contains settings for the basemap layer, data layers, layer styles, pop-up styles, and more. Web maps are typically created and styled interactively with the Map Viewer or ArcGIS Pro, and then consumed by applications and APIs. A web map can be created, shared, and stored in ArcGIS as an item with a unique item ID.
