basemap

A basemap is the foundational layer and data that provides the overall visual and geographic context for a map or scene. It typically includes geographic features such as land, water, roads, buildings, cities, places, and administrative boundaries, but can also include raster data such as satellite and aerial images. A basemap is displayed in a map or scene with a basemap layer. The data source for a basemap is a basemap service or data service. The style and visual appearance of a basemap is defined by a basemap style.
