tile layer

A tile layer is a that can access and display tiles (rectangular sections) into a continuous layer. These tiles are either raster image tiles or vector tiles that are generated into a tile cache before being made available for use. This is different than a , which is rendered in response to user actions. Tiled layers are often used for basemaps. In older documentation, the term tiled layer frequently refers only to , because are newer.
