A static map is a non-interactive map image generated by the ArcGIS Static Maps service. It consists of a basemap style and optional geometries such as points, polylines, and polygons. Images are rendered in jpeg, png, or webp format and can be generated at specific map scales and custom sizes.
Static maps can be simple or complex. Simple static maps contain a basemap only or a single geometry with a default symbol. Complex static maps can contain multiple geometries, multiple geometry types, complex coordinate configurations, labels, and custom symbols.
Static maps are designed for applications that do not require user interaction such as panning or zooming, but still need to display maps in web apps, mobile apps, reports, emails, receipts, and other static outputs. Because a static map is a standard image, displaying it does not require a mapping API.
